Key Challenges
Furniture stores must show detailed imagery and large catalogs while keeping browsing responsive. For FurnitureOne, the challenge was to load collections, product images, and product pages efficiently across devices through Shopify speed optimization, without weakening the shopping experience.
High-resolution images came first. Shoppers judge designs, finishes, upholstery, and colors from photos, but oversized files increase page weight, so images needed proper sizing and responsive delivery.
Collection and product pages were the second concern. Collections spread products across many categories, brands, and styles, and loading too much content at once slowed rendering. Product pages carried multiple images, specifications, and options, so essential information had to appear quickly while extra images loaded afterward. Mobile shoppers felt this most, since large image payloads and poorly managed layouts hurt responsiveness.
The third issue was theme and app overhead. Customizations, JavaScript, and third-party apps added to load time, and finding the real problem resources required technical assessment, not assumptions. Filtering, sorting, navigation, and product details had to keep working throughout.
The goal was a faster, more responsive storefront that preserved the product presentation and catalog functionality customers already relied on.
Solutions
BrainSpate focused the optimization on FurnitureOne’s image-rich catalog, collection pages, and theme resources.
- Switched product images to Shopify’s image_url filter with sized srcset attributes, so mobile devices load smaller files.
- Removed lazy loading from primary product images and hero banners, and added fetchpriority=”high” to key above-the-fold images to improve LCP.
- Deleted leftover code and asset references from uninstalled apps in theme.liquid.
- Deferred non-critical JavaScript to reduce its impact on initial rendering.
- Reduced the number of products loaded per collection page.
- Served appropriately sized images for different screen widths to avoid oversized files on mobile.
- Kept collection navigation, filtering, sorting, product details, and shopping interactions working after the changes.
- Compared homepage, collection, and product pages before and after to measure loading behavior and Core Web Vitals.
